The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture warmly invites members of our congregation to attend a special screening and interfaith panel event on Feb. 3 from 7:00-8:30pm, moderated by Gabriel Award–winning cable TV show co-hosts of
Reel Faith, David DiCerto and Steven D. Greydanus. It’s an incredible opportunity for film and live theater fans to prepare for Easter by interacting with leading Christian, Jewish and Muslim thinkers on the highly-charged subject of the Passion of Jesus Christ. Don’t miss it!
The fascinating and timely event will discuss the history of Passion plays and the current state of interfaith relations, issues evoked by the Broadway-level production of Easter Mysteries (
http://www.eastermysteries.com), which will be released as a holiday film event on 700 screens throughout the United States on March 22, 2016. The panel will be taped for inclusion in the film, and never-before-seen scenes from the film will be shown.
The program is being organized by Tony Award® winning Broadway producer John O’Boyle, whose new musical features a cast of culturally diverse Broadway veterans who have starred in
Les Mis, Mary Poppins, Porgy and Bess, Phantom, and other classics. It is a stirring re-imagining of the Easter story for modern audiences designed to build bridges and facilitate inter-faith dialogue and friendship.
Panelists will include:
O. Carter Snead: William P. and Hazel B. White Director Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Ethics and Culture at the University of Notre Dame
Sister Sanaa Nadim: Islamic Society Chaplain of the Interfaith Center at Stony Brook University and Vice Chair of Muslim Advisory Board of Suffolk County—who will reveal the Islamic perspective on Jesus, Mary and the Passion of Christ
Rev. Tony Suarez: Vice President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference
Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, Executive Vice President, New York Board of Rabbis and co-host of "Religion on the Line" on WABC radio in NY
You are encouraged to invite fellow parishioners, friends and family to share this enlightening and uplifting experience. It’s a great way to enter into the Lenten season!
